CFL Combine

As the CFL COMBINE came to a close on Sunday, Mar 16, SST was represented well. SST had three athletes competing at the annual job fair for prospective new CFL players. Mike Bradwell, Jason Arakgi, Dave Gauer, Alexander Hoad and Ugonna established themselves as the top tier prospects in the country.

Mike Bradwell was regarded as one of the top receivers by teams despite competing with a pulled hamstring. He placed 3rd among receivers in the vertical jump, jumping 36.5 inches. His broad jump was 5th in the receiver category leaping a distance of 9’8”. Mike came into the combine with a slightly strained hamstring and still produced at a high level. During the broad jump Mike tweaked his hamstring and was unable to complete the remaining drills.

Jason Arakgi placed in the top three in every drill at the combine. To say he competed might be an understatement; he excelled. In the 40-yard dash Jason ran a good time of 4.76 seconds which was 2nd among linebackers. He also ran well in the shuttle posting a time of 4.25 seconds. This time was not only 2nd among linebackers but he finished in the top five overall. Jason finished 2nd in the vertical jump at a height of 37 inches among linebackers. In the broad jump there was only one linebacker who beat him, as Jason jumped 9’10”. Jason also impressed on the bench press having performed 21 reps, 3rd among linebackers. Despite being the first athlete to compete in every event (ordered by last name) Jason set the bar. Jason’s draft stock moved up on team boards with his performance at the combine.

Dave Gauer competed strong at the combine as an offensive lineman placing in the top 5 in three different categories. In the vertical jump test Dave placed 4th among offensive lineman jumping 26.75 inches. In the broad jump Dave placed an impressive 3rd among offensive lineman at 8’6”. In the 40-yard dash Dave ran a good time of 5.43 seconds and was in the top 5 for offensive lineman.

Alexander Hoad competed in Laval, Quebec at the CFL Free Agent Evaluation Camp. Alex did very well and competed at high levels. Alex tore it up and placed 1st, not only in the defensive back categories but 1st OVERALL. In the vertical jump test Alex placed 1st overall and jumped a height of 39 inches. Not only did Alex jump well but he ran well. In the shuttle drill he placed 1st overall with a time of 4.1 seconds. In the 40-yard dash he impressed as he finished with a time of 4.51 seconds which was in the top 5 overall.

All the guys did exceptionally well and competed hard. Their training and hard work paid off and the results are they to show it. Again, SST has prepared their athletes to compete and excel at high levels.
